April member of the month is Andrew Lucero, 26
Where are you from– Montrose
Occupations–Student, Husband/ Dad
How long CrossFitting– Started in 2011/2012 off and on, started consistently attending a year ago
What brought you in— He thinks it’s the best movement methodology for training in all aspects of fitness, so he wanted to learn
How did you feel after your first WOD– His first class was on break from college. It was “Hotshots 19”. He had done heavy one rep maxes on the clean and jerk but not for multiple reps in a workout. He found it a humbling experience, but it only served to motivate him.
Fav WOD/movement– “Isabelle”, “Eva T”
Least fav WOD/movement– Four corners warm-up/ Handstand Push Ups, Pistols
Background (athletics)–Soccer in high school and at BYU
Food–A bit of Keto with small amounts of carbs before a WOD, otherwise he tries to be 75% whole foods / non processed
Favorite guilty pleasure– Milkshakes
Goals— Andrew wants to learn to move better mechanically, starting with posture and mobility, ultimately being able to do a “perfect” front squat with a PVC.
What advice would you give someone on the fence about starting CrossFit— “Just come in, once you step through those doors, you’re never gonna leave here feeling worse than when you came in. You’ll be happy that you did whatever it was.”
Has CrossFit helped you in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and vice versa— Andrew believes they complement each other – BJJ has helped him appreciate being in uncomfortable positions, and his fitness from CrossFit transfers to the mat.
